Storyteller's Journey

          Satisfying the Scribe

I've heard writers mention many things that they really need to do their craft: a certain music, a computer with two screens, a certain software, inspiring knick-knacks in their work area, and on and on. I have something different in mind...

It has been three years since our little dog, Robin, passed away. Our whole family was understandably shaken by our loss. Following her death, my husband boldly stated that he never wanted another pet. (I knew that his comment came from his desire to never again experience the pain we all endured.)

Last Saturday we attended a lovely dinner party at the home of our friends - Kevin and Kristy. They have a wonderful black rescue dog, named Jackson. Whenever I'm around an affectionate (and well-mannered) dog I melt. The thing is, Michael connected with Jackson too. I think there may be a crack in his no-pet policy - it's time to renegotiate. Wish me luck...a dog is what will satisfy this scribe!

I would love to hear about your pet - or any other special items
that add to your comfort and inspiration while you're writing!

  1. My sister has five dogs and I never understood the relationship between a man/woman and his dog until I got my own. Now my sister just laughs at me. Sorry about your dog and I'll be keeping fingers crossed for you.

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth. When I told my husband about this blog post he laughed and said, "that's extortion!"

  2. Sorry about your dog. I'm a no pet inside person so I can understand where your hubby is coming from. Still I hope you can resolve it in a way your both satisfied.

  3. Jackson sounds wonderful. I hope you take him. Rescues are so grateful to have a home. I have a rescued greyhound, and a border collie we rescued from the pound. The border collie is 14 now. We know she doesn't have many years left, and we see her slowly slowing up. She still runs the household.

    1. Actually Jackson is a rescued dog that our friends have already welcomed into their family. Seeing Michael "cozy up" to a dog tells me he is probably ready to open his heart again to a pet. I'll keep you posted on my pet progress. ^_^ Your pets sound wonderful, Loree!

  4. I have a rescue cat. The only time he features in my writing world is when he nudges me for food. The sounds of nature inspire my creativity; hearing the birds in the garden, or the wind thrashing about. Oh, more sunny days would be grand.

    1. Thanks, Debbie. We have a love of nature in common, dear friend. Unfortunately, our weather is similar too. England's gray skies, and the Pacific Northwest's rain! I hope we get into the 60's today. Have a great weekend!

  5. What adds comfort and inspiration while I'm writing? a clean house, folded laundry, a prepared meal, and content children

...needless to say, I haven't written anything in a while. *sigh*

    1. I'm a bit like that too, Linda. I can't concentrate until the bed is made, the dishes done, the bills paid, etc. That's why I write in the afternoon. However, my sons are out of the house now - that leaves my afternoons free until my husband returns from work. BTW - I notice you mention laundry! HeHe! http://www.writersdolaundrytoo.com/
      Love your blog!
