Riffle -

A rocky shoal or sandbar lying just below the surface of a waterway.

Example: The young salmon discovered a rich food supply in a riffle of the river.

    1. Cool, Loree. I discovered this word while on a nature walk at Wildwood Recreational Site. A kiosk along the path described the riffles in the Salmon River of Oregon. Have a great weekend!
