Whimsical Word of the Week

Gongoozler -

an idle spectator.

Example: The private detective was no more than a gongoozler amongst the cacophonous crowd at Churchill Downs.

  2. Where does this word originate?

I love regional words. Only today, during a CPR study day, we were discussing the North/South divide. A tea cake differs depending where you live in England. Up North they have currents in, and down South without, like your bread rolls (I think).

    1. The word gongoozler originated in your home country of Great Britain, Debbie. In the U.K. it usually refers to a person who watches canals,(sounds exciting). However, it has taken on more of a generalized definition that I originally posted. (That tells us what folks think of a "canal gazer," I assume. ^_^)
