Whimsical Word of the Week

Velleity (n.) -

a wish or inclination not strong enough to lead to action.

Example: The athlete's desire to go to the Olympics was really nothing more than a velleity since he declined to train appropriately.

  1. Ha-ha: My plan to clean house is more velleity than intention.

Where do you find these words?

    1. I can relate to the house-cleaning dilemma, Elizabeth! ^_^
I find my "whimsical words" in books I read and online sources, such as Phrontistery, as well as others. I also keep a Word Box filled with 3 X 5 cards of interesting words I find while thumbing through my thesaurus.
Glad you enjoy these unique gems!
